Baron Robert Staniford first gained recognition in the middle seventies. Based in Chelsea at that time, Rob’s artwork attracted particular interest from people involved in the entertainments industry. He also undertook some commissioned work, in particular for members of the London Armenian community. In addition to this, two novels were accepted for publication and Rob was also engaged in freelance journalism for Private Eye and the Guardian.
Rob’s work has been exhibited and sold in Kensington, Chelsea, Bath, Exeter, Edinburgh, Camberley, Wokingham, Bracknell and Reading as well as a specific commission in Tehran, Iran. His work has also been put up for auction at Bonham’s, South Kensington.
For personal reasons Rob decided to leave the London art scene and for some years wrote and painted only for his own pleasure. An incident in 2001 left Rob blind in one eye and partially blinded in the other. Surgery a year later successfully restored his sight and this period also clarified Rob’s vision in other ways. He is now painting quite prolifically in a style that is very much his own and is also very much involved in digital media.
Rob's poetry has also been well received and is gaining acclaim he has produced illustrated volumes of his own work as well as providing illustrations for others. There are several volumes of work available to buy online in hardback, paperback or digital download format. His fifth novel is set for publication in 2008 as well as a further volume of poetry. Rob is also now involved in the setting up and launching of A.S.P Books. This is a venture involving members of the Ambiance group in the launch of their own joint publishing enterprise.
